| Young talent races to WA
rally
Twenty year old Glen Raymond of
Melbourne is set to give a brilliant performance when he competes in Round Two of the NEC
Computers Australian Rally Championship (NEC Computers ARC), the QUIT Forest Rally.
The rally will roar through Busselton and Nannup from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 May
2006.
Rally driving professionally since 2004, Glen
has already achieved impressive results at club, state and national levels, including
ranking thirteenth in Heat One of the 2005 NGK Rally of Melbourne.
Unfortunately I was forced out of the Rally of Melbourne last year due to two flat
tyres so I cant wait to get back into competition this year for a fresh start at the
QUIT Forest Rally, Glen Raymond said. Its a thrill to be driving
against the nations top rally drivers like Neal Bates and Coral Taylor who came
first in Round One, the Subaru Capital Rally in Canberra, he said.
Glens family, who are all car rallying
enthusiasts, are combining their resources to support him when he competes in 2006.
Particularly dedicated to the cause are his mother Faye and father Roy who will be
travelling to Western Australia with Glen as members of Glens pit crew during the
QUIT Forest Rally. A competitor is only as good as the team behind them. To have a
team surrounding me who share my passion really instils confidence in me as a
driver, Glen said.
Im looking forward to giving it my
best shot driving on Western Australias famous gravel tracks, he said.
Glen will be tackling the track in a purposely
built Subaru Liberty RS, a four wheel drive turbo rally car that was created by him and
his team. Working to a low budget the Raymond family is in high anticipation of the
performance that Glen will put on for spectators, sponsors and fellow competitors on the
raceway. Glen is sponsored by Raymond Partners Accountants and the Bendigo
Bank.
50 rally cars are expected at the competition,
including top models by Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru and the long awaited return of Ford
after a 20 year absence.Keeping with tradition, a spectacular fireworks display will
entertain crowds at the Busselton Super Stage on Friday evening.
Other entertainment will include extreme
motocross bikers, a sideshow alley, delicious food and drinks stalls full of local
produce, and a live band, the Stallions, who will play as the fireworks ignite.
