Rally Australia Trial Event

Rally Australia Trial Event

Round 4 of the WA Clubman Series, the Rally Australia Trial Event did not go as planned last weekend.

Emergency Services and Police had mounted a massive search for a lost man in hills area of Mundaring in the days leading up to the event. By the morning of the rally, the man had still not been located and the rally,  scheduled to run in the same area had to be cancelled in the interests of safety.

With this year’s Clubman series having been reduced to just 4 rounds, the deciding rally will be run 3 weeks after Telstra Rally Australia on November 25th in Jarrahdale.

For Telstra Rally Australia, the trial event is a chance to train officials and test processes and equipment for the main event later in the same month. Whilst rally competition was cancelled, officials remained in place and several road cars were used in a non competitive manner to complete the required testing and training.

The Trial Event also doubles as a shakedown for many WA private teams entering Telstra Rally Australia. Running at the rear of the Clubman field, several WRX’s and Lancer Evolutions had entered this year’s Trial Event to complete some testing kilometres. Those missing out on the Trial Event may have to make the most of the limited official TRA shakedown scheduled in the weeks preceding Rally Australia.

Telstra Rally Australia is due to start on October the 26th and continue through until October the 29th. Details can be found on the Telstra Rally Australia website: www.rallyaustralia.com.

With the State Rally Championship having finished in July this year, the focus is now on the 2006 WA Clubman Rally Series.

Clubman teams will return to the Hills east of Perth on Saturday the 7th of October to contest what is to be the very last Rally Australia Trial Event. The rally is so named as it is used as a training ground for officials, to test equipment and processes for the international event due to run later in the same month.

The Clubman Rally Series is open to two wheel drive cars only. This means that many classic rally icons such as Datsun 1600’s and Ford Escorts compete on an even footing with more contemporary cars such as Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas. The competition is always close amongst the teams and the action great to watch.

Approximately 70km of competitive special stages lay ahead of teams on the slippery and often dusty Mundaring stages.

Based out of Fred Jacoby Park along Mundaring Weir Rd, the service area, results and rally HQ will all be contained around the same area.

Hot food and drinks will be available on the day near the service area and spectating is free.
Please do not bring pets to the rally, animals and motorsport do not mix.

First car is due to start at 11:30 am and finish at around 4:00 pm. Spectator information is available from the results van located in the service area.

The last Telstra Rally Australia in WA is due to run from the 26th to the 29th of October. For all information: www.rallyaustralia.com.au
